't Wije Watersport is a Dutch yard that builds its boats under the Brandaris name; for the Brandaris Q52 the builder is given as 't Wije Handelsonderneming Oskamp. Vripack drew the Q52 and handled design, naval architecture and interior. The boat is 16 metres long and 4.50 metres wide, with a planing hull, twin Cummins engines on Zeus drives and three quarters of its area as open deck. The rest of the range centres on the Barkas boats, motorboats shaped like a classic Dutch launch, and the 850 name simply means about 8.5 metres.

Our records list seven models: four motorboats and three motor yachts. Six carry the Brandaris name, joined by the Mogano Launch 780. The Barkas line starts in 1999 with the Barkas 8,45 and the Barkas 11 runs to 2013. Three models measure 8.5 metres: the 850 Open and 850 de luxe, both 2007 to 2015, and the Limited Edition from 2007. Sizes run from the 7.8 metre Mogano Launch 780 to the 16 metre Q52, and three lines reach the most recent build years: the Limited Edition, the Q52 and the Mogano Launch 780, built from 2013.

The launches are made for canals, lakes and slow summer evenings, tied up in town harbours and lifted out for winter. The Q52 lives in another world, a fast planing boat for coastal days and sunny anchorages. Teak and varnish on the launches want regular care, and the pods on the Q52 deserve a yearly service.
