Tango Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Tango Yachts builds in Poland. Its flagship design, the Tango 30, was drawn by the Polish naval architect Andrzej Skrzat as a cruiser-racer in glassfibre, and according to the source it went into production in 2005. A larger Tango 33 followed later in the same decade. At home the Tango 30 became a familiar sight in the charter fleets on the Masurian lakes, the wide lake district in the north east of the country. As cruiser-racers, the boats are meant to do two things at once: offer enough accommodation for several days aboard and carry a rig and keel that hold their own in club racing.
Our model records hold three designs, all of them sailing yachts. The oldest line is the Tango 780, listed from 1994 to 2017 at 7.8 metres. The Tango 30 measures 9.5 metres and appears from 2003 to 2018, while the Tango 33 at 10.27 metres runs from 2004 to 2022. None of the three reaches into the most recent build years. Taken together, the entries span almost three decades, and the lengths sit close together between just under eight and just over ten metres. That makes for a compact range: one smaller yacht and two larger sizes with more room below.
Since the Tango 30 has often served in charter fleets, a used one deserves a careful look. Ask for the logbook if there is one, and check the rudder bearings, the keel bolts, the winches and the wear on sheets and sailcloth. A boat that has spent seasons on inland lakes has seen fresh water rather than salt, which is kinder to fittings and engine cooling, but lake sailing also means frequent tacking and many short outings with changing crews. Glassfibre hulls of this age should be checked for osmosis and for soft spots in the deck around stanchion bases and chainplates. A survey before purchase pays off on any of the three sizes.
