Western Yachts was the company of designer Ian Anderson, who had his boats built there. It is remembered for the Anderson 30, a cruising yacht that one British magazine sums up as tough, conservative and of heavy displacement. Only a limited number were built, so they turn up rarely today. The proportions give an Anderson 30 away: a lot of hull for nine metres, a masthead rig with a small mainsail and a compact, seaworthy shape. The design favours weight and an easy motion in a seaway over outright speed. Below there are six berths, and a 13 horsepower diesel does the motoring. The sources say nothing more about the firm itself, such as where it was based or when it began.
