Worth knowing
Jan Brügge Bootsbau; cover, cost and conditions
Woy is the boat brand of Jan Brügge Bootsbau, the Königstein yard at Grödersby on the Schlei inlet in northern Germany. Master boatbuilder Jan Brügge set up the business in 2016. The yard is best known for the Woy 26, a wooden daysailer of about eight metres, and also builds boats to individual order under the Woy Custom name.
According to the yard, each boat takes around six months to build, and production runs in small numbers by hand. Besides the daysailers, the team has also built a 48 foot racer cruiser for a private owner. A Woy is closer to a one off than to a production boat.
When you look for cover on a small series wooden boat, the agreed value matters most. There are few comparable boats on the used market, so keep the build contract or invoice to hand and check that the policy states how the value is set and how repairs to the wooden structure are handled.
