Yachtwerft Portier sits at Meilen on Lake Zurich. Its story starts in 1815, when David Suter opened a workshop there to build and repair fishing boats. The French name arrived in 1914 with Félix Portier, a shipwright from Thonon-les-Bains on Lake Geneva who turned the yard towards pleasure boating. From then on Meilen turned out sailing and motor boats in wood, steel and later glassfibre. The yard became known for keelboats of the Olympic Star class, for Ynglings and for mahogany runabouts. Portier no longer builds boats of its own; today it imports other brands and looks after maintenance and storage on the lake.
