The chain runs from Bequia down to Carriacou and the hops are short: ten to twenty five miles, mostly in sight of each other. In season the trades blow east to north east at fifteen to twenty five knots, so northbound legs are hard on the wind. Off the Tobago Cays, Horseshoe Reef flattens the swell but not the wind: flat water, full breeze. In between lie reefs the chart places roughly, and nobody works that water on waypoints alone.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from November to April and berths are in the upper band: inside the Tobago Cays marine park anchoring now costs what a buoy costs, and in Britannia Bay off Mustique a buoy is compulsory. Hurricane season lasts from June to November, so most boats go ashore further south, in Grenada or in Tyrrel Bay on Carriacou, tied down in a cradle. The yards fill up from August to October, so book the space early.
What this means for your policy
The Grenadines fall under the cruising range for the Caribbean and the Bahamas; a policy that stops at the Mediterranean will not carry here. Two questions for your own policy: what is agreed for the boat between June and November, and does the wording use a line of latitude that puts the chosen yard on the right side of it? Then: how is grounding treated on a reef the chart places roughly?
