Worth knowing
AST - Advanced Sailing Technologies; cover, cost and conditions
Eleven AST models are on record, built since 2015, a mix of motor boats, rigid inflatables and open sailing boats. The line includes the Beach 280, 340 and 341, the Tender 340, the Adventure Boats Scout, Travel and Vesta series and the sailing boats Lowrider L12 and The Foiling Dinghy. Lengths lie between 2.6 and 5.8 metres.
Size is the governing factor when insuring an AST boat. All models are small and trailerable, so liability forms the basis and transport on a trailer or on a yacht deck can be included. On the foiling sailing boat the intended use should be declared, because sporty sailing carries different exposures from a plain tender. Anyone wanting hull cover for the larger RIBs should state value and cruising area accurately.
NAMMERT insures AST boats regardless of year of build and place of purchase, whether as a yacht tender or as a stand alone sports boat. From the Beach 280 to the Vesta V-585 the whole line can be covered. The premium is worked out in the online calculator in five minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the AST Foiling Dinghy insured?
As a sporty sailing boat of 3.85 metres. Liability is the basis, and the sporting use should be named in the application so the cover matches it.
Can an AST Beach 340 run as a tender?
Yes. At 3.4 metres it is a typical tender size and can be insured under the mother yacht policy or separately.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
