Astillero Sabor; cover, cost and conditions
Astilleros Sabor is a yard in Portonovo, part of Sanxenxo in the Galician province of Pontevedra, and says it has been in business since 1990. It builds leisure and work boats, repairs and maintains them and offers winter storage ashore. The yard describes its boats as sturdily built with well used space aboard, which suits the Rías Baixas, where small motorboats go out fishing and to the islands. The names give a number and a type: Open, Cabinada with a cabin, Fisher, FB with a flybridge, and EJE, Spanish for shaft.
Our model records list 17 Sabor designs, ten motorboats and seven listed as motor yachts. The 575 Cabinada has the earliest build year, 2004, and all 17 lines run into the most recent years. There are three Open models, three Fishers (600, 900 and 995), four FB models, two EJE models, the 575 Cabinada, the 575 Sport and the plain 370, 400 and 460. The Fisher models arrived in 2015 and 2016. Lengths run from 3.7 metres (Sabor 370) to 9.99 metres (995 Fisher).
Sabor boats are made for Galician waters: rocky shores, cold Atlantic swell and short trips out of small harbours. The smaller boats are launched by crane or trailer and spend the winter ashore, while the larger Fisher models stay on a mooring through the season. Salt spray and rocky landings make a rinse after each outing and a regular check of hull and propeller worthwhile.
