Gelex Global Group; cover, cost and conditions
Gelex Global Group is a Polish company, registered as a Sp. z o.o., the Polish form of a limited company, and it builds small open motorboats in aluminium. According to its catalogue the hulls are made from the marine alloy EN AW-5083/H111 and welded by TIG and MIG/MAG methods. The metal then receives a chromate-free titanium passivation and a polyester powder coat up to one millimetre thick. Closed-cell polyethylene foam blocks sit in the hull cavities and under the deck to add buoyancy and keep the boat stable even if it floods. Depending on the version, the boats are steered by tiller or from a side or centre console.
Our model records list five Gelex designs, all open motorboats. The first series uses capital letters and three-digit numbers: the GELEX 390 at 3.93 metres, the GELEX 440 at 4.5 metres and the GELEX 500 at 5.15 metres, all three recorded from 2017 to 2023. From 2021 models with the letter G followed: the Gelex G 4.0 at 3.94 metres, listed from 2021 to 2025, and the Gelex G 5.2 at 5.15 metres from 2022. Only the G 5.2 reaches the most recent build years. Every boat stays between just under four and just over five metres, the size that travels on a small trailer. The maker describes the G 5.2 as a boat for leisure, fishing and commercial work, with outboards of up to 115 horsepower.
Aluminium boats forgive a lot, but they have their own weak spots. On a used Gelex check the welds along the keel, the transom and the console mounts for hairline cracks, especially if the boat has been run hard in a chop. Damage to the powder coat should be touched up quickly, because bare aluminium near stainless fittings or a steel trailer can suffer galvanic corrosion. The anodes on the outboard need regular replacement. Look at the transom where the engine bracket bears and at the drain plugs. On boats used for fishing, rod holders, echo sounder transducers and extra fittings mean extra holes, each of which should be properly sealed. A short run at full throttle shows whether the outboard and the steering are in good order.
