Infinity Ski Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Infinity Ski Boats was set up in 1999 within the Specialty Marine Group as a supplier of watersports products. According to the US Coast Guard manufacturer register, Rinalli Boats Ltd traded as Infinity Boats from a plant in Seguin, Texas, with an entry running from March 1999 to April 2005. The boats were built for waterskiing and wakeboarding, and market data list a 310 hp inboard as the standard engine. In a boats.com test the ZX-1 ran 48 mph. The brand is no longer in production. Its models are easy to tell by their short names: two letters and the number 1.
Our model records list three designs, all motorboats: the Infinity LX-1, the Infinity ZS-1 and the Infinity ZX-1. The ZS-1 is the earliest entry from 1999 and, at 7 metres, also the longest. The LX-1 and the ZX-1 both measure 6.71 metres and start in 2000. The LX-1 and the ZS-1 run to 2006, the ZX-1 to 2007. None reaches the most recent build years. The lengths sit close together, with less than 30 centimetres between the shortest and the longest. Anyone looking for an Infinity today is buying used, and even the youngest boat is close to twenty years old.
A tow boat of this age has usually led a busy life of short, hard runs, so the drivetrain comes first on any inspection. Look at the inboard's service history, the shaft and propeller, and the condition of the cooling system after years of fresh or salt water. Tow points and the pylon base carry real loads and should be checked for cracks in the surrounding deck. Seats, upholstery and flooring age quickly in the sun. Most of these boats live on a road trailer, so its brakes, rollers and lights deserve the same attention as the hull.
