Maestro Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Maestro Boats is a Finnish builder of sailing yachts, and the Jonmeri line comes from the same company, which is why some model names appear under both brands. The Maestro 40 was drawn by Eivind Still; its hull is resin infused around a Divinycell core, with carbon fibre reinforcing the keel area. Maestro yachts are solid Baltic cruisers with deckhouses that let plenty of light below, sized between nine and just over twelve metres.
Our records list seven models, all sailing yachts: six Maestros (31, 35, 38, 40, 95 and 345) and the Avance 40 DS. The Maestro 31 opens the list in 1982 and runs to 1988. The rest start in the late 1990s: the 35 in 1998, the 38, the 95 and the Avance 40 DS in 1999, the 40 in 2002 and the 345 in 2010. The Maestro 40 and 345 are recorded into the most recent build years. Lengths go from 9.3 metres (Maestro 31) to 12.2 metres (Avance 40 DS), with the Maestro 40 at 12.1.
These boats are made for Baltic summers: archipelago anchorages, rocky shores and long light evenings. A cored hull deserves care, so moisture readings around fittings and the keel are worth taking now and then. Many owners keep their Maestro ashore under a winter frame, which spares deck and gelcoat from ice and gives time for the annual round of maintenance.

As the Maestro 40 and Maestro 345 by Maestro Boats series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Maestro 35, Maestro 38,
Maestro 95 by Maestro Boats and 1 more series the market value and the replacement cost often
differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Maestro 31 by Maestro Boats series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Maestro 40, Maestro 345, Maestro 35 by Maestro Boats and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
