Mervista Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Mervista Marine, also written Mer Vista, is a Chinese boatbuilder based in Qingdao in Shandong province. The company gives 2007 as its founding year and concentrates on rigid inflatable boats, with hulls in either glassfibre or aluminium. Its range also takes in glassfibre fishing boats, pangas and rescue craft. The look is practical rather than showy: an open deck, a centre console and a continuous tube wrapped around a solid hull. For the larger boats the yard specifies tubes made of Orca Hypalon 866, a fabric chosen for its resistance to abrasion, and it states that its boats are built to CE and ISO standards.
Our model records list four designs, every one of them a RIB: the Mervista 480, 580, 680 and 860. The type number gives the length away, so the 480 measures 4.8 metres and the 860 measures 8.6 metres. The 480 is the oldest, recorded from 2018 to 2022, followed by the 580 from 2020 to 2024. The 680 and 860 arrived in 2021 and run to the 2025 build year in our data. None of the four reaches into the newest build years. The yard describes the 680 as an open centre console boat with an aluminium hull, a beam of 2.72 metres and 150 hp, meant for fishing, fast runs and rescue work. The 860, at 28 feet, is the longest of the range and is rated for single or twin outboards with up to 300 hp in total.
Looking after a RIB starts with the tubes. Hypalon tolerates sun and salt well, yet seams, valves and the glued joints along the hull deserve a close look every season, and a tube that goes soft overnight tells its own story. On an aluminium hull, check the anodes and any spot where stainless fittings meet bare metal, since galvanic corrosion works quietly. A used boat from these short production runs is still young, so the record of engine hours and the service history of the outboard often say more than the year on the builder's plate. Smaller models such as the 480 and 580 usually travel on a road trailer, so bearings, lights and the winch strap are worth a glance as well.
