Worth knowing
Nautica International; cover, cost and conditions
Nautica International is based in Pembroke Pines, near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Founded in 1982, it first imported folding boats from Italy and turned to rigid inflatables in 1985. Hulls are fibreglass, some with added Kevlar, and the boats serve as yacht tenders and as tough RIBs for leisure, military and police use. The name reads simply: Rib plus the length in feet, so a Rib 25 is 7.6 metres. Sport Utility, Deluxe and Widebody describe fit-out and beam, Jet or Diesel the propulsion.
Our model records list 30 Nautica International models, 17 inflatables and 13 larger RIBs. Build years run from 1992 to 2012, and none is still in production. Lengths range from 3.1 to 10.1 metres, with half between 4.0 and 6.3 metres. The small tenders run from the Rib 9 Sport Utility at 3.1 metres to the Rib 16 Deluxe at 4.8, including the Rib 12 Jet and Rib 15 Diesel. From 18 feet come the larger RIBs, from the Rib 18 at around six metres via the Rib 19 and 22 to the Rib 25 at 7.6 metres. The largest is the Rib 33 Twin Diesel at 10.1 metres, built from 1992 to 1998.
Many of these boats hang off the stern of a motor yacht or sit in its garage, ferrying guests ashore; others are trailered to the ramp. Value depends on the tubes, which age with sun and heat, on the hull, and on the outboard, jet unit or diesel and its hours. A jet or diesel tender is dearer to replace than an outboard boat of the same size.

For the Rib 9 Sport Utility, Rib 10 Sport Utility,
Rib 11 Deluxe by Nautica International and 26 more series the market value and the replacement
cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Rib 33 Twin Diesel by Nautica International series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Rib 9 Sport Utility, Rib 10 Sport Utility,
Rib 11 Deluxe by Nautica International and further series: Even without an engine the rule holds:
a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
For the Rib 16 Jet, Rib 18 Deluxe, Rib 18 Diesel by Nautica International and further series:
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered,
porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
