Oundle Marina; cover, cost and conditions
Oundle Marina sits on the River Nene at Oundle, not far from Peterborough in the east of England. Jack T. Newington, known to everyone as JT, was looking for an inland berth for his own boat when he came across a disused site by the river. He turned the old pits into a marina and in 1964 added a slipway, a workshop and a chandlery, and Oundle Marina Ltd was born. In 1967 the young business was offered the moulds of a small day cruiser called the Fairline 19, and Newington took them on. The Fury 25 followed in 1969, drawn by John Bennett: an unusual offshore cruiser whose single helm was set into the cabin top and reached by offset moulded steps. In 1971 his son Sam Newington joined and renamed the firm Fairline Boats to match the craft it was building.
Our model records list two designs under this name, both from the years before the rename. The Fairline 19 motorboat appears with build years 1967 to 1975 and a length of 5.65 metres, a day boat with a compact cabin. The Flying Fury motor yacht is listed from 1966 to 1975 at 7.55 metres, the larger of the pair. The published history names the Fury 25 by John Bennett for this period, while our records carry the yacht as Flying Fury. Neither design runs into recent build years; production under the Oundle Marina name ended in the mid seventies. Anyone owning one today has a hull roughly half a century old that has usually passed through several hands.
A glassfibre hull from the late sixties rewards a patient survey. Look at the gelcoat for crazing and blisters, sound the transom around the engine mounting and check that deck fittings have not let water into the core. Wiring and fuel lines on boats of this age have often been renewed piecemeal, so it is worth tracing them end to end. The Fairline 19 was built as a day boat for rivers and sheltered water and many still live on a road trailer, so bearings, rollers and the winch post matter too. On a Flying Fury, the raised helm and its moulded steps deserve a close look for cracks.

Flying Fury is a motor yacht from Oundle Marina, built from 1966 to 1975.
For the Fairline 19 and Flying Fury by Oundle Marina series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Fairline 19 by Oundle Marina series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Flying Fury by Oundle Marina series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
