Panga Marine builds open motorboats at its plant in Sarasota on Florida's Gulf coast, doing every step of the work in house rather than outsourcing it. The boats trace back to the panga, the narrow, high sided fishing boat of Central America with a sharp entry that crosses a short chop on modest power. Panga Marine turns that idea into skiffs and centre consoles for flats and offshore fishing. Look for the length in feet in each name, such as 22', and place names like Boca Grande, Marquesas, Captiva or Yucatan.
Our records list ten models, all motorboats, from the 5.49 metre 18' Skiff to the 8.6 metre 28' Aventura. Four belong to the 22 foot class (22', 22 Captiva, 22' Boca Grande and 22' Marquesas) at 6.74 to 6.96 metres. Boca Grande and Marquesas share a hull: the Boca Grande has a full liner as standard, while the Marquesas goes without, saving weight and leaving room for custom fit outs. A Panga is a fishing boat first: launched from a trailer at dawn, run across shallow bays and beached on a sandbar. An open hull with no liner, like the Marquesas, is easy to hose down but shows every scratch, so fenders and a soft landing pay off.
