Worth knowing
Perisset; cover, cost and conditions
Perisset is the boatyard Périsset Bernard SA in Estavayer-le-Lac, a small town on the southern shore of Lake Neuchâtel in western Switzerland. The yard sits on the Route des Lacustres right by the water and has its own sailing boats: the Nomade range in sizes 640, 830 and 980, the Vagabond and the older DC 20 cabin boat. It also serves the lake's sailors with maintenance and winter work, osmosis treatment, engine servicing, antifouling, teak decks and refits. The DC 20 is a glassfibre monohull with a centreboard and a fractional sloop rig, a boat made for an inland lake with shallow shores.
Our model records list one Perisset design, the DC 20 sailing boat at 6.7 metres, with build years from 1965 to 1975. Other sources give 1963 as the start of production, two years before our first entry. The boat weighs around 800 kilograms, and the centreboard lifts so it can creep close to the shore and sit on a trailer. We do not hold the newer Nomade and Vagabond lines, so the entry does not reach recent build years. At just under seven metres the DC 20 has room for a small cabin and still fits a berth in a Swiss lake harbour.
Lake sailing is gentle on hulls but hard on gear that sits in the sun for decades. On a DC 20 check the centreboard pivot and lifting line, the case for leaks and the rudder fittings. Sixty year old glassfibre can show blisters, and the yard itself offers osmosis treatment. Sudden thunderstorm gusts are a known feature of Swiss lakes, so a sound rig and a quick reefing system matter more than speed. Teak trim and the cabin windows are worth a close look before the season.
