Phileas Boats is based in Rochefort on the French Atlantic coast. The yard made its name with the Open 5.70, an open sports keelboat drawn by Groupe Finot under Jean-Marie Finot. The hull is a foam-cored moulding, which makes it stiff and unsinkable. Below the waterline sits a T-keel that can be raised: fully down it draws about 1.75 metres, lifted around 1.37 metres for shallow water. You recognise the boat by its broad stern with twin rudders angled outwards, a fully battened mainsail and a retractable sprit for the asymmetric spinnaker. The hull looks like a scaled-down Open 60 ocean racer. Besides Phileas in France, Columbia Yachts built the design in the United States.
