San Remo Boats; cover, cost and conditions

San Remo is a Portuguese yard based in Paraimo, in the Aveiro area. It was founded in the 1980s as San Remo Indústria Náutica and builds leisure and fishing boats, by its own account entirely by hand. The yard names three fields it works in: cruising, fishing and big game fishing, and it describes its hulls as unsinkable. The range is organised in series named after their length, from the 635 through the 750, 860, 900 and 930 to the Offshore line.

Our model records list 15 designs, twelve motor yachts and three motorboats. The 635 comes as Fisher and Sport at 6.35 metres, the 750 as Fisher Lux, Pro, Sport and T-Top at 7.49 metres. The 860 Blue Sky and 860 Blue Sky Flybridge measure 8.6 metres, the 900 Fisher Pro and Offshore Pro 7.99 metres. The 930 appears as Fisher Lux, T-Top and Tuna Tower, joined by the Offshore 310, all at 9.3 metres. The oldest entry is the original San Remo 930, built from 2003 to 2013, while the other 14 designs start between 2014 and 2016 and reach into the most recent build years.

Fishing boats with a T-top or tuna tower carry a lot of weight up high, so the welds and mounting bolts of the frame are the first thing to inspect on a used one; salt and vibration work on them constantly. Rod holders, outriggers and electronics leave holes in deck and console, and each one should be properly sealed. Twin outboards put real load into the transom, so look for cracks in the gelcoat around the brackets. Fish boxes and live wells need clean drains, or water ends up where it should not. Boats of this size often live on a trailer, and Atlantic salt water is hard on trailer bearings and brakes, so rinsing after every launch pays off.

What this means for the cover

As the San Remo 635 Fisher, San Remo 635 Sport,

San Remo 750 Fisher Lux by San Remo Boats and 11 more series are still in production,

parts are available and repair costs are predictable.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

For the San Remo 930 by San Remo Boats series the market value and the replacement cost often

differ widely.

An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

For the San Remo 635 Fisher, San Remo 750 Fisher Lux,

San Remo 750 Pro by San Remo Boats and further series:

On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.

Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.

For the San Remo 635 Sport, San Remo 860 Blue Sky Flybridge,

San Remo 930 by San Remo Boats series: On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.

Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
