Sea Hunt is an American builder from Columbia, South Carolina. Father and son Vic and Bubba Roof founded the company in 1995 in a small plant outside the city. Vic Roof Sr. had been in boatbuilding since the sixties and had earlier set up the Sunbird Boat Company with his brother Alvin, which later went to Outboard Marine Corporation. Sea Hunt has built its boats in South Carolina since the start, and they are saltwater center consoles: boats for fishing along the coast, in the bays and offshore. They are recognisable by the walk-around console in the middle, a hardtop or T-top above it, outboards on the transom and rod holders all round.
Our model records list 21 designs, all of them motorboats. The oldest is the Sea Hunt Ultra 234 from 2015, sixteen designs start in 2017, and sixteen reach into the most recent build years. A center console used for fishing in salt water needs regular fresh water rinses, especially of the outboards, the trailer and every stainless fitting. On a used Sea Hunt, check the hours and service records of the outboards, the condition of the steering and the console wiring, and look for stress cracks around the T-top mounts. Livewells, pumps and through-hulls deserve a test run. Many boats spend their lives on trailers, so brakes, bearings and rollers should be inspected as well. Boats imported from the United States need a check of electrical standards and paperwork for registration in Europe.
