Seafury; cover, cost and conditions
Seafury is based on the Zijleiland in Leiden and builds sloeps and tenders. In the Netherlands the sloep is the classic open leisure boat for canals, lakes and sheltered water, and that is the yard's territory. By its own account the company has more than 20 years of boatbuilding behind it. The boats are built to HISWA standards and carry CE certification, and the yard points to a proven hull shape that sits stable and holds its course. Buyers choose between diesel, hybrid and fully electric drive, and colour and finish are set to order. A brokerage listing for the Seafury 800 mentions a Vetus diesel, a bimini and a splash board.

The oldest line is the Seafury 800 at 7.3 metres, listed from 2012; the Tender Hawker 800 at eight metres follows from 2015, and the rest start in 2017. The Comfort line consists of the 650 Comfort at 6.5 metres, the 700 Comfort at 7 metres and the 730 Comfort at 7.3 metres. Next to them stand the 760 at 7 metres and the 900, the largest at 9 metres. The Tender Hawker range takes in the 650, the 725 at 7.25 metres and the 800. Seven of the nine boats sit between 6.5 and 7.3 metres, so the range clusters tightly around the seven-metre mark.
A sloep leads a busy life: tied to a jetty in summer, on a trailer in autumn, launched and hauled out over slipways in between. That makes the trailer, its bearings, lights and winch strap part of any inspection. Open boats live with the weather, so the upholstery, the bimini seams and the drainage of the cockpit need attention, and a good tarpaulin for the off season soon pays for itself. On electric and hybrid boats, ask for the battery history and look at the charging setup; on diesels, the usual checks on impeller, filters and cooling apply. Locks and narrow canals leave marks on fenders and rubbing strakes, which is normal wear rather than a warning sign. A short run on the water shows whether steering and drive feel right.
