Sigma Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Sigma Yachts is a British range of sailing yachts built by Marine Projects in Plymouth. The best known designs come from David Thomas, who drew the Sigma 33 and then the Sigma 38, chosen in 1985 by the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Royal Thames Yacht Club as a new one design class. That is where the OOD tag comes from: Offshore One Design. Sigmas are quick cruisers with a racing streak, built in glassfibre and laid out for a crew of six to eight, and many still race in class fleets in Britain and Ireland.
Our records list 11 models: ten sailing yachts and one sailboat, the 8 metre Sigma 8m. Lengths run from 8 metres to 12.5 metres for the Sigma 41. In between sit the 8.53 metre Sigma 292, the Sigma 33 and 33 OOD at 9.88 metres, the 10.74 metre Sigma 35, the Sigma 36 and 362 at 10.98 metres, the Sigma 38 and 38 OOD at 11.58 metres and the 12.27 metre Sigma 400. Recorded build years run from 1975 for the Sigma 33 to 1999 for the Sigma 38 and 400. No model reaches the latest build years.
A Sigma is a boat with a past, often refitted with new sails, wiring or engine. Racing owners should check rig and keel bolts before each season, since class racing loads the boat harder than cruising. Out of season, a dry cradle ashore and an unstepped mast spare the rigging, and a well kept logbook helps any later buyer.

For the Sigma 38, Sigma 400, Sigma 8m by Sigma Yachts and 8 more series there is no list price
left.

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Sigma 38, Sigma 400, Sigma 35 by Sigma Yachts and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Sigma 8m by Sigma Yachts series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
