WestWinn Group; cover, cost and conditions
WestWinn builds welded aluminium boats in Canada. The works lie at Vernon in British Columbia, inland east of Vancouver. Several brand names run under one roof; the boats in our records carry the names Kingfisher and Harbercraft, the latter being the older and having begun in Ontario. Construction is fully welded, without rivets, in comparatively heavy aluminium plate. You recognise the boats by the angular, deliberately functional shape, the high bow with its upright stem and the continuous rubbing strake; many models carry a fixed wheelhouse for the cold and often wet water of the Canadian west coast.
Our model records list 59 WestWinn models, 50 of them motorboats and nine motor yachts. Recorded build years run from 2007 to 2019. Fifty nine series are recorded: the Kingfisher Extreme Shallow 1875 and 2175, the Falcon XL Jet 1875 and the Offshore range from 2525 to 3325, each in the Destination, Excursion and Weekender versions. Under the Harbercraft name stand the 1625 Falcon, 1725 Adventurer, 1775 Extreme Duty and 1875 Whitewater. Lengths run from 4.9 to 10.1 metres, half the models between 5.6 and 7.4 metres. The four figure number gives the length in feet and inches.
Welded aluminium dents where fibreglass cracks, and a dent across a weld is a repair rather than a cosmetic matter. Many of these boats are also drawn for shallow water and river work, some with a jet drive instead of a propeller, which changes what happens when the bottom comes up: a jet has no exposed blade to lose, but it will take in whatever the river is carrying.
