Willigen Maritiem B.V.; cover, cost and conditions

Willigen Maritiem marks the start of the Antaris brand. In Ossenzijl, Friesland, Mark and Laura van der Willigen Gatsonides built their first sloops in 1989, at first under the name Adria. In 1992 they registered the Antaris name. About ten years later Hans and Jeannet Webbink took over the business, which moved to Woudsend in 2005; in 2008 Antaris merged with Maril Boats and Makma to form Aquatec Industries. A sloep is an open Dutch leisure boat with a beamy hull and bench seating along the sides, made for lakes, canals and town waterways. Designs such as the Antaris 570 and 630 made the name known.

Our model records hold 20 designs: 18 motorboats and two small motor yachts, the Antaris Cabinato and the Antaris MK 825. Eight designs carry the Adria name, from the Adria 400 of 1989 to the Adria 630 Deluxe, and the Adria 501 Deluxe and 520 Deluxe each come as AB and IB. From 1996 twelve Antaris designs follow, among them the 520 as Dieselsloep and Outboardsloep, the 615 Kajuitsloep, the 600 Sport and 650 Sport and the 720 Family. Lengths run from 4.06 metres for the Adria 400 and Antaris 400 to 8.55 metres for the MK 825. The Adria range ends in 2003 and the Antaris 570, the last of all, in 2008. No design reaches the most recent build years.

A sloep is a simple boat, which makes a used one easy to judge. Check the hull for osmosis blisters and gelcoat cracks, the rubbing strake for loose fixings and the floor for soft spots. The inboard diesel versions need a look at engine mounts, shaft seal and cooling, while outboard boats depend on the condition of the engine and its bracket. Teak or wooden trim on the seats wears in sun and rain and may need sanding and oiling. Many of these boats spent their lives on Dutch inland waters, where low bridges and locks leave marks on canopies and fenders.
