Xpress Boats has been building aluminium boats in Arkansas since 1966. The company began in Friendship, moved to Hot Springs in 2000 and describes itself as family owned in the third generation. Its hulls are fully welded aluminium rather than riveted sheet, and in the late 1980s the yard added the Hyper-Lift Hull, a hull with a pad at the stern. A model name tells you both purpose and size: Bass and Crappie point to anglers chasing those fish, Catfish to catfishing, Bay to shallow coastal water and Hunting to hunters, while the number is the length in feet. A Bass X18 Pro is 5.48 metres long, a Bay X23B 7.01 metres.

Our model records list 22 Xpress motorboats, all with build years from 2018. Twenty one lines run into current production; only the Bay Skiff 185 ends in 2022. The Utility range is the largest group with five models from the HD 15 to the HD 20, followed by four Bay boats, three each of Bass, Crappie and Jon, and two each of Hunting and Catfish. Lengths run from 4.57 metres for the Jon 1546 and Utility HD 15 to 7.01 metres for the Bay X23B. Five models stay under five metres, ten sit between five and six, seven are longer.

These are trailer boats first and foremost. They are towed to a lake, a river or a bay, launched at the ramp and taken home again the same evening, and few of them ever see a permanent berth. Welded aluminium shrugs off stumps and gravel better than it tolerates salt, so a freshwater rinse after a day on the coast and a dry winter under cover keep hull and trailer in good shape.
