Arturo Stabile is a family yard in Trapani, on the western tip of Sicily. The Stabile family has been building and servicing boats there since 1875; today it builds sport cruisers and yachts under its own name and also runs the Marina Arturo Stabile in Trapani. The models carry the name Stama. From the 37 Stama Hard Top sport cruiser the yard moved up to the 50 Stama, a flagship of more than fifteen metres drawn by Tommaso Spadolini. Its signature is a fully enclosed all-weather hardtop with an electrically opening roof and a sliding patio door, so the saloon can be shut in poor weather and opened to the sun.
Our model records list two designs, one motorboat and one motor yacht, marking the two ends of the range. The Stama 20 Day measures 6.7 metres and is listed for build years 1998 to 2012; its name points to day trips. The Stama 50 Hard Top reaches 16.21 metres and runs from 2005 to 2017. At its launch it offered three double cabins, two heads and room for up to fourteen people, driven either by Volvo IPS pods or by conventional shafts. Neither design reaches the most recent build years. Almost ten metres separate the smallest and the largest boat, and mid-sized models such as the 37 Stama do not appear in our records.
With a Stama the care list depends on which end of the range you own. On the 20 Day it is the usual work of a small sports boat: hull finish, steering, engine and the trailer if it travels by road. The 50 Hard Top is a different matter. The opening roof has motors, seals and runners that need regular attention, and failing seals show up as stains in the headlining. Pod drives need their service intervals kept, shaft installations their bearings and glands checked. When buying a used 50, ask for the service history of the engines and the hardtop mechanism, and have the roof opened and closed several times before signing.
