Domani Yachts is a Belgian builder. Michael Goddaert put together the first prototype in a small shed in Brecht, in the province of Antwerp, and that boat became the brand's first model, the S28. For the next design he worked with Dutch naval architect Peter Bosgraaf and Flemish designer Jonathan Anthierens on a 3D model, from which the moulds of the S30 Sportyacht were made. She was shown for the first time at the Düsseldorf boat show in January 2018. Since then the small project has grown into a yard with several partners. A Domani reads as a modern daysailer with a fractional rig, a fin keel and bulb and a spade rudder below the waterline.
Our model records list two designs, both classed as sailing yachts. The S28 appears with build years from 2014 to 2021 and measures 8.4 metres. The S30 starts in 2018 and runs to 2023, and at 9 metres it is the larger of the pair. For four seasons, from 2018 to 2021, both were built side by side. Neither design reaches into the most recent build years in our records. It is a compact range, then: two boats between roughly eight and nine metres, built over close to a decade, each meant as a quick day boat with a small cabin for short trips.
A bulb keel and spade rudder reward a careful look when a used Domani is on the hard. Check the keel joint and the bolts for weeping, and feel the rudder bearings for play. A fractional rig puts a lot of load on the shrouds, so the rigging age matters. Many of these boats have been raced at club level or sailed hard on short afternoon outings, which shows in sails and running rigging more than in the hull. As both lines have ended, spare parts and class knowledge are easiest to find through other owners.
