Doomernik Yachts bv; cover, cost and conditions
Doomernik is a Dutch yard in Zaltbommel and is known as the only builder of Dragons in the Netherlands. Alongside the racing Dragon it produces a daysailer on the same hull, with a wooden deck that keeps the vintage look and a mainsheet island in the middle of the cockpit, the so-called barney post, which lets the helmsman walk forward on either side. Beyond the Dragon, the name is tied to the Wallynano. Its second version was a joint effort by Wally's Luca Bassani, the designer André Hoek and Doomernik, Italian styling with Dutch workmanship. Joop Doomernik brought his Dragon joinery skills to the interior and spent a year simplifying and lightening the boat.

The yachting press gives the MkII as 11.4 metres overall, 9.0 metres on the waterline and 2.6 metres in beam, with a draft of 1.8 to 2.6 metres depending on the keel. The hull is a carbon and epoxy sandwich, and the MkII is around 300 kilograms lighter than the first Nano. The boat fits a 40 foot container for shipping, the mast splits into two sections and the keel bolts are easy to reach.
A carbon and epoxy boat is light and stiff, but it wants careful handling. Every shipment in a container means lifting, strapping and refitting the mast, so the joint in the spar and the rigging terminals deserve a check after each trip. Varnished wood below decks rewards a dry boat and good ventilation. On a used Wallynano, ask for the history of the keel and its bolts, look for impact damage around the bow and check the sails, which are a large part of what makes the boat sail as it should. Most owners use it as a fast daysailer and for regattas.
