Drabant Marine; cover, cost and conditions

Drabant is a Danish family of glassfibre sailing boats and cruising yachts. For the Drabant 22 and the Drabant 33 the published record names Gert Gerlach as designer. Several yards were involved: the 22 came from Fåborg Yachtværft, while the 33 was built jointly by A/S Nillings Bådeværft and Gesten Glasfiber Bådeværft, which is why the Drabant 38 also appears on our Nillings page. The numbers in the names roughly follow length in feet, and both documented designs share the Scandinavian layout of fin keel and skeg-hung rudder.

Our model records hold eight Drabants: three sailing boats, the 21, 22 and 24, and five cruising yachts, the 26, 27, 30, 33 and 38. The 21 and 22 start the list in 1965, and the last recorded production ends in 1995 with the Drabant 38. Lengths run from 6.58 metres for the Drabant 22 to 11.45 metres for the Drabant 38, with the 27 at 8.3, the 30 at 8.95 and the 33 just over ten metres. Every one of the eight production runs is closed.

A Drabant today is a classic boat, and most owners have added something over the years: new sails, fresh electronics, a replacement diesel. The small models up to about 7.4 metres travel on a trailer and suit lakes and sheltered bays, while the 33 and 38 belong in a marina berth and handle coastal passages. With hulls of this age, a careful look at keel bolts, rudder bearings and deck fittings each spring pays off.
