Worth knowing

Dullia; cover, cost and conditions

Dullia is an Italian builder of sailing yachts whose range took shape in the seventies and eighties. Its boats carry the signature of two Italian designers. Ettore Santarelli drew the small Dullia 21 at 6.44 metres and the 9.06 metre Dullia 30 of 1977, which appeared a year later in a sportier Dullia 30S version. Sciomachen was responsible for the Dullia 108 at 11.50 metres and the Pupa D36 of 1980 at 10.80 metres. The Furia D25 at 7.50 metres completes the list. According to the sailingtheweb directory, the range therefore runs from just over six to more than eleven metres. This Furia has nothing to do with the Furia built by the Spanish yard Dresport; the shared name is a coincidence. The sources do not give the yard's location, so it is not stated here.

Our model records list four Dullia lines, all from 1975 to 1986. The smallest is the Flash at 6.4 metres, listed as a sailing boat and recorded from 1975 to 1982. The Furia at 7.2 metres is also listed as a sailing boat, with build years from 1975 to 1986. The S 30 at 9.06 metres matches the length of Santarelli's Dullia 30 and is recorded from 1975 to 1983. The largest is the Dullia 36 at 10.77 metres, built from 1978 to 1986. According to sailingtheweb, the Furia D25 has a fixed keel drawing 1.40 metres, a single cabin with four berths and a small inboard diesel.

Dullia boats were built in small numbers, so owners rarely find another boat of the same model in the next berth. That makes careful documentation worth the effort: the exact type name, the build year and the hull number help when ordering parts or comparing notes with other owners. On yachts of this age the keel attachment, the rudder and its bearings, the chainplates and the standing rigging deserve a close look, as do the deck fittings and any signs of osmosis. A well kept Dullia remains a lively boat for coastal sailing, whether on Italian waters or elsewhere in Europe, and its Italian design lineage is part of its appeal.

What this means for the cover

For the Dullia 36, Furia, S 30 by Dullia and 1 more series there is no list price left.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.

For the Dullia 36, S 30 by Dullia series:

On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:

a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,

and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.

For the Furia, Flash by Dullia series:

On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.

A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
