Espace Vag is a Breton yard from Concarneau. Olivier Louédec and Jacky Milville set it up in 1989, first repairing and building boats in composite and plywood. The yard made its name with the Ikone range, which began as a small fishing cruiser with a catboat rig: a single sail on a mast stepped well forward. In 2006 the architect Julien Marin drew the Ikone J with the yard, a livelier and more playful boat. In July 2019 the company went into liquidation. Philippe Goyat then bought the moulds of the Ikone 5.50, 6.00, 6.50 and 7.50 through his firm Francophil, intending to bring the boats back.
Our model records list two designs from very different periods. The Typick is classed as a sailing dinghy, built from 1993 to 1999 and 3.36 metres long, a small boat from the yard's early years. The Ikone 750 is listed as a sailing yacht, built from 2013 to 2020, and at 7.49 metres she is the largest boat of the brand in our records. A boom extension lets her fly a spinnaker. Fourteen years separate the end of the Typick from the start of the Ikone 750. Neither reaches into the most recent build years; both lines are closed.
With the original yard gone, a used Ikone or Typick depends on what owners have kept. Composite and plywood boats from this workshop deserve a moisture check wherever fittings pass through the deck. On the Ikone 750 the rig and the boom extension take real loads, so look at the mast foot and the fittings at the gooseneck. Where a boat is trailed to the water, that makes the trailer, the launching gear and the rudder fittings part of any inspection.
