Fantasi Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Fantasi Yachts hails from Skaftö on the west coast of Sweden. The boats were built by Jacobssons Båtbyggeri and sold under the Fantasi Yachts name, with lines drawn by Gabriel Heyman. The yard concentrated on one size, the Fantasi 44, a semi-custom glassfibre cruising yacht. She has a fin keel with the rudder on a partial skeg, a teak deck and a self-tacking jib, and carries CE category A for open water. Alongside the Classic there is the Pilothouse with a raised deckhouse and a sheltered steering position, plus a one-off named Dawdle.
Our model records list two designs, both sailing yachts and both 13.69 metres long: the Fantasi 44 Classic for build years 1996 to 2006 and the Fantasi 44 Pilothouse from 1996 to 2005. Neither reaches into the most recent build years, so today these yachts change hands on the used market. The sources give a beam of just over four metres and a displacement of about 14 tonnes; the Pilothouse draws around 2.2 metres, a little more than the Classic. In our records the brand is built around one size and one job, sailing long distances.
A yacht of this kind is usually bought for passages, so a used one deserves a survey with that in mind. The hydraulic furling gear needs its seals and hoses checked, the self-tacking jib track and car want a look for wear, and a teak deck of this age may need its seams or fastenings renewed. The rudder on its partial skeg should be checked for play in the bearings, and the keel joint for signs of a hard grounding. In the Pilothouse the deckhouse windows and their seals are worth a close look. Owners who keep up with these jobs end up with a boat that is still ready for open water.
