Fisksätra Marina AB; cover, cost and conditions
Fisksätra is one of the early names in Swedish glassfibre boatbuilding. Axel Larsson founded Fisksätra Motorbåtsvarv near Saltsjöbaden, east of Stockholm, in 1919 and built planked wooden boats, many of them to designs by Carl Gustaf Pettersson. His son Torild Larsson took over in 1948 and started working with glassfibre a year later, delivering his first product to the navy. Production later moved to Gränna and, from 1968, to Västervik. In 1973 Kjell Berglund bought the boatbuilding business and formed Fisksätra Marina AB. Knud Reimers drew the S 30 skerry cruiser and the Swede 55. The last boat, a Swede 55, was finished in 1980.
Our model records list 14 designs: six sailing yachts, four sailing boats and four motorboats. The oldest is the Havsfidra 20 from 1964, followed a year later by the Havsfidra 25, the Storfidra 20 and 25 and the Primör 18 and 23 motorboats. The Ohlson 22 arrived in 1966, the Ohlson 25 in 1971 and the S 30 skerry cruiser in 1970. The Parant and the Debutant date from 1972, the Swede 55 from 1974. The latest build year in our records is 1983, for the S 30. Lengths run from 5.45 metres for the Primör 18 to 16 metres for the Swede 55, and ten designs stay under eight metres. None is built any longer.
These are early glassfibre hulls, and early laminates were often laid up thick, which is one reason so many are still sailing. On a used boat the questions are about what surrounds the hull: the deck core around fittings, chainplates, the keel bolts, the rudder and the age of the standing rigging. Many boats have been re-engined, so ask what is installed and when. The square-metre boats, the S 30 above all, are narrow, long and tender, made for the sheltered waters of the Stockholm archipelago and for club racing. A Havsfidra or Storfidra is a simple, honest small cruiser for the coast.
