Franchini International Spa; cover, cost and conditions

Franchini is an Italian yard in Riccione on the Adriatic. Boatbuilder Michele Franchini set it up in 1946, building work boats first and wooden pleasure yachts later. Under Massimo Franchini, who took charge in the 1980s, the yard moved to vacuum infusion and added ideas such as the stern sun deck and the deck house. Doug Peterson drew the Custom line of the 1990s. In 2003 the Emozione 55 brought the first motor yacht, styled after American lobster boats.

Our model records hold 22 Franchini designs: 20 sailing yachts and two motor yachts. Seventeen sailing yachts carry the Franchini name and a number, from the 11.3 metre Franchini 37 L to the 22.2 metre Franchini 73. Six of them add the letter L, five the letter S and two the letter T, with the 41 DS and 45 A completing the set. Three more sail under the Atlantide name. The Emozione 55 at 17.15 metres and the Franchini Emozione 74 at 22.57 metres are the motor yachts, the latter the longest boat in the list. Build years run from 1978 to 2014, and eight of the sailing yachts exceed 15 metres.

Most Franchini yachts on the market today date from the 1990s and spend their seasons in the Mediterranean, often on long passages. A yacht of this size lives on a marina berth or a mooring and needs a yard with a large travel lift for its winter haul out. Teak decks, older rigging and the deck house seals deserve a careful look before any long trip.
