Kirie Constructions Nautique; cover, cost and conditions
Kirié was a French yard on the Atlantic coast of the Vendée. It began in 1912 in a workshop at Les Sables-d'Olonne with small wooden boats; motorboat building followed in the 1950s and at the end of the 1960s the works moved to neighbouring Château-d'Olonne. Kirié was among the first French yards to work in polyester, and from that period come the fishing and leisure boats of the Ange de Mer range. In the early 1980s came the range the yard is remembered for: the fast Feeling cruisers. The works passed to Alliaura Marine in 2000 and building ended in 2012.
Our model records list 72 Kirié models: 35 sailing yachts, 24 sailing boats, ten motorboats and three motor yachts. Recorded build years run from 1964 to 2009. Sixty series are recorded: the Feeling 29, 30, 32, 36, 39 and 44, the six hundred series from the 306 through 326, 346 DI, 356, 396, 416 and 486 to the 546, and the Feeling 1090. Beside them stand the early Ange de Mer 600 and 650, the Agon Super, the Agena and the Albacore. Lengths run from 3.6 to 16.6 metres, half the models between 6.4 and 10.1 metres.
The Feelings carry a part most cruising yachts do not: a lifting keel. Many of them were drawn to take the ground in the shallow bays of the Atlantic coast, and that keel is a moving assembly which takes the first load in a grounding. Its case, its mechanism and its seal are worth looking at closely on any boat of this kind, far more closely than the hull around them.

For the Feeling 32, Feeling 36,
Feeling 39 by Kirie Constructions Nautique and 13 more series the market value and the replacement
cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Feeling 226, Feeling 226 di,
Feeling 256 by Kirie Constructions Nautique and 41 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Feeling 32, Feeling 36, Feeling 39 by Kirie Constructions Nautique and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Saxo 226 DI, Feeling 226,
Feeling 226 di by Kirie Constructions Nautique and further series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the Ange de Mer 1100, Ange de Mer 800, Ange de Mer 750 by Kirie Constructions Nautique series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Ange de Mer 600, Ange de Mer 650,
Armen by Kirie Constructions Nautique and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
