Långedragsteknik AB is a Swedish sailing yacht builder whose name points to Långedrag, a seaside district on the western edge of Gothenburg. Our records spell the models both with and without the ring over the A, as Långedrag and Langedrag. One source names Rolf Modigh as designer of the Långedrag 441 and Långedrag Marin AB as its builder. Our sources do not confirm when the company started or how many yachts it built. Two naming systems both give the length in feet: two digit numbers such as 38, 45 or 59 state it directly, while in the three digit 401, 441 and 501 the first two digits are the feet. The 501 measures 15.24 metres, exactly 50 feet.

Our model records list eleven sailing yachts. The earliest are the 9.7 metre 32 X and the 13.5 metre 441 Arctic, both from 1977. The 38 and 47 follow in 1979, the 49 in 1981, the 401 and 441 in 1985, the 59 and 501 in 1987, the 45 in 1988 and the 42/43 in 1997. The 501 is the last line, recorded until 2007. Lengths run from 9.7 metres for the 32 X to 18 metres for the 59. Only the 32 X and the 11.5 metre 38 stay under 12 metres; seven sit between 12 and 15 metres, and the 501 and 59 go beyond.

These are cruising yachts for long passages along the Swedish west coast, across the North Sea or further afield, and most of them have decades of sailing behind them. Rigging, chainplates and seacocks deserve a professional check at regular intervals, and a winter ashore gives the hull time to dry out. The rocky skerries off Gothenburg are a reminder why a good chart plotter and a careful eye on the depth sounder matter on any of them.
