Worth knowing
Leonardo Yachts B.V.; cover, cost and conditions
Leonardo Yachts is based in Sneek in the north of the Netherlands and was founded by the brothers Steven and Melle Boersma. Since 2011 the yard has built daysailers with classic lines that take their cue from the J-Class racing yachts of the 1930s. The Eagle 44 came first, developed with Dykstra Naval Architects, and the Eagle 54 followed with Hoek Design, keeping the generous cockpit of the 44 while adding room for longer stays aboard. The number in each name is close to the length in feet.
Six Eagle models appear in our records, all sailing yachts. The Eagle 36 and 44 are listed from 2014, the Eagle 38 and Eagle 70 from 2016 and the Eagle 46 from 2021, with the Eagle 54 completing the range. The 36 runs to 2019, while the other five reach the most recent build years. Lengths go from 10.7 metres for the Eagle 36 to 21.05 metres for the Eagle 70, with the 38 at 11.77, the 44 at 13.33, the 46 at 14.26 and the 54 at 16.64 metres.
A daysailer like the Eagle 44 is made for an afternoon on the water with an easy sail plan and a large cockpit, ideally from a berth close to open water. The larger Eagles add accommodation for weekends and longer cruises. Classic lines and a fine finish stay at their best with a winter indoors and regular care from a yard that knows the boat.
