Mön Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Mön Boats is the name under which the Danish yard Møn Boats A/S appears, a builder of glassfibre sailing yachts. A well documented example is the Larsen 25, drawn by the Danish designer Hans Åge Larsen and built by Møn in the 1980s. Its hull is hand-laid solid glassfibre with a sandwich deck, which makes the cabin more comfortable. The Larsen 25 was also sold as a kit for home builders, so individual boats can differ noticeably in laminate, joinery and systems. The Mön designs are easy to place by their plain type numbers, often three digits such as 291, 331 or 431.
Our model records list eleven designs built between 1975 and 1996: ten sailing yachts and one motor yacht. Nine carry the Mön name and two that of the designer Larsen. First comes the Mön 27, listed from 1975, followed in the early eighties by the Mön 830, Mön 37 and Mön 391, then the Mön 331, the Mön 341 and the Larsen 28. From the mid eighties came the Larsen 25, the Mön 291, the Mön 431 and the Mön 321 Turbo, the only motor yacht in the range at 9.7 metres. Lengths run from 7.92 metres for the Larsen 25 to 12.8 metres for the Mön 431. Five designs stay under nine metres and five measure ten metres or more. No line reaches the recent build years; the last entries end with the Larsen 25 in 1995 and the Larsen 28 in 1996.
Every Mön on the market today has thirty years or more behind it. Hand-laid hulls of this period are usually sturdy, yet a survey should still look for osmosis blisters, soft spots in the deck around fittings and the state of the keel bolts. Standing rigging and chainplates may still be original and are worth replacing if no records exist. With the Larsen 25 the build history matters: a yard-finished boat and a kit completed by an owner can be very different underneath the same lines. Their size suits coastal sailing and short hops between harbours, and the motor yacht Mön 321 Turbo needs the usual checks on engine hours, cooling and shaft seals.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Larsen 28, Larsen 25, Mön 291 by Mön Boats and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Mön 321 Turbo by Mön Boats series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
