MRCB; cover, cost and conditions
MRCB stands for MultiRole Cruising Boat, and the name sums up the ambition. Behind it was MRCB Developments in Britain, which built a motorsailer meant to do two things properly: sail like a real yacht and plane under power. The boat was designed by Ian Anderson together with Chris Baker, and the hulls came from Halmatic moulds. The clever part sits at the stern: hydraulic wings retract when sailing and extend for motoring, changing the effective shape of the hull. A retractable drive with counter-rotating propellers reduces drag under sail. An MRCB stands out through its mix of a fractional rig with machinery more familiar from fast motorboats.
Our model records list one MRCB design: the MRCB motorsailer, 11 metres long, classed as a sailing yacht and recorded for build years 1981 to 1990. Published descriptions call the boat the MRCB 37, at 11.28 metres overall. They give the engine as a turbocharged Volvo Penta AQD40 of 165 hp, good for 18 to 20 knots under power, while the sail area of the fractional rig is deliberately modest. No other lines carry the name, and none reaches the most recent build years. Anyone who comes across an MRCB today is looking at an unusual piece of eighties engineering that set out to end the old split between sailing yacht and motor cruiser.
Owning an MRCB means owning its systems. The hydraulic wings, their rams, seals and hinges need to be exercised and inspected, because a seized wing changes how the boat behaves under both sail and power. The retractable drive and its counter-rotating propellers are specialist items; ask for service history and check that the drive raises and lowers smoothly. A turbocharged diesel of this age wants a careful look at the turbo, the cooling and the exhaust. The fractional rig itself is conventional, but chainplates and mast step should be checked like on any yacht of the period. A survey by someone familiar with both sail and power boats is time well spent.

Series by MRCB, build years and cover
MRCB Motorsegler is a sailing yacht from MRCB, built from 1981 to 1990.
For the MRCB Motorsegler by MRCB series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the MRCB Motorsegler by MRCB series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
