OÜ Ridas Yacht & Composites; cover, cost and conditions

Ridas Yacht & Composites is an Estonian yard, founded in 1993, building sailing yachts and cabin boats. Its most familiar design is the Ridas 35, drawn by the Finnish naval architect Guy-Christer Lönngren and sold as the Guyline 355 in its early years. The source describes it as a fast cruiser with room for a family and an ocean rating under CE Category A. The hull is vacuum infused, with a fin keel carrying a bulb and a spade rudder below. Clean Scandinavian-influenced lines are the family trait, and larger yachts such as the Ridas 46 DS followed later.

Our model records list 15 designs, 13 sailing yachts and two RIBs. Six yachts carry the Ridas name, the 26, 31, 33, 35, 46 and 46 DS, joined by the Ridas RIB 700 at 7 metres and the Ridas RIB 36 Explorer at 11.7 metres. The list also holds yachts under other names whose link to the yard the source does not explain: the Race 77, Race 77 IMS and Race 79 from 1988 to 1998, the Blank 46 Pilothouse, Diva 34 and Diva 35 from around 2000, and the Heyman 42 from 2018. In our records the Ridas 35 starts in 1994 and the Ridas 31 in 1997. Nine designs reach into the most recent build years, and the two Ridas 46 are the largest at 14 metres.

A Ridas built for open water is often sailed hard, so a used one deserves a proper survey. Infused hulls are stiff and light, and the keel bolts and the area around a bulb keel take the strain of any grounding, so look there first. A spade rudder should turn without play; worn bearings show up as a knock under way. Baltic boats spend long winters ashore, which is kind to the hull but hard on deck fittings and seals if the winter tarpaulin was skimped. Check the age of the standing rigging, since many yachts from the nineties still carry their original wire. The RIBs need the usual attention to the tubes and their bond to the hull.
