Pacer Yachts is a South African yard based in Chempet near Cape Town and in business since 2005. It builds sporty sailing yachts drawn with weight saving in mind. For the Pacer 376 the yachting press names Simonis/Voogd as designers and describes a foam cored sandwich laminated with epoxy. The 376 came both as a cruising version and as a dedicated racer with a carbon rig and deeper draught. The names give the size: three digit numbers such as 310, 376 and 400 read as feet with one decimal, so the 376 is about 37.6 feet, while the 27 and 42 are whole feet.

Our model records hold eight Pacer designs, every one a sailing yacht. They fall into five lines: the 27 Sport, the 310 Sprint, the 376 in its CR, EP and R versions, the Pacer 400 and the 42 as CR and LE. The 376 CR opens the list in 2006 and the 27 Sport carries the latest build year, 2022. Lengths run from the 8.3 metre Pacer 27 Sport to the 12.9 metre Pacer 42 LE, with the 310 Sprint at 9.5 metres, the three 376 versions at about 11.5 metres and the 400 at 12.0 metres. The two 42 models are the youngest line, recorded from 2015 to 2019.

A light epoxy hull and a carbon mast reward careful handling: check the rig after every hard season, keep the sails dry and out of the sun, and lift the boat for a hull inspection before the racing calendar starts. Owners who trail their Pacer between regattas spend as much time on cradles and cranes as at a marina berth, so good chocks and a proper lifting plan matter.
