Portugal-Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Portugal-Yachts is, in our records, a builder whose entire range dates from the 1970s. We have no verified details on its base, founding or history, so this page follows the model data. The names stand out: most models carry the names of Portuguese towns, Faro, Porto, Lisboa and Tavira, plus a number. Porto covers the motorboats and motor yachts, Faro the sailing yachts. The range stretches from a small motorboat to a large sailing yacht, wide for such a short building period.
Our records list nine models: five sailing yachts, three motor yachts and one motorboat, all built between 1970 and 1980. The sailing yachts are the Faro 31 (9.25 metres), Faro 38 (10.3 metres), Lisboa (14.5 metres), Albu 49 MS (15 metres) and Tavira 88 (26.96 metres). The motor yachts are the Porto 42 (12.45 metres), Mira 50 (15.3 metres) and Porto 55 (16.8 metres), and the only motorboat is the 6.9 metre Porto 22. Sizes therefore run from 6.9 metres to almost 27 metres.
Every one of these boats is at least in its mid forties, most around fifty, which makes each surviving example a classic with its own history of refits. Before buying, a haul-out and a close look at hull, keel bolts, engine beds and wiring tell more than any brochure. Apart from the trailerable Porto 22 they are berth boats, and they last longest with a winter ashore, good ventilation below and steady care of the deck.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Faro 31, Faro 38, Albu 49 MS by Portugal-Yachts and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Porto 22 by Portugal-Yachts series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Porto 55, Mira 50, Porto 42 by Portugal-Yachts series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
