Pronavia Marine AB is a Swedish builder of sailing yachts. Our records file two generations under its name: the Contrast range and the later Pronavia 38. The Contrast 33 was drawn by Swedish designer Rolf Magnusson as a cruiser racer with a fin keel and a free standing spade rudder, and its name hints that it was designed without regard to any rating rule. The Pronavia 38 is a Christian Stimpson design, built like the others in glassfibre. Slim, sporty lines and the Contrast or Pronavia name on the hull give them away.

Six models appear in our records, all sailing yachts. Five carry the Contrast name: the 9.85 metre Contrast 33, recorded from 1977 to 2000, the 11 metre Contrast 36 (1980 to 1993), the Contrast 362, also 11 metres (1983 to 1998), the 11 metre Contrast 37 (1991 to 1998) and the 12.2 metre Contrast 400 (1990 to 2001). The sixth is the 11.58 metre Pronavia 38, listed from 2002 to 2012. Lengths run from 9.85 to 12.2 metres, three models sit at exactly 11 metres, and the Contrast 33 had the longest run, over twenty years.

These are cruising yachts that hold their own on a club race course. A fin keel and spade rudder ask for respect in rocky Scandinavian waters, so a check of the keel joint and rudder bearings at every lift is time well spent. Older Contrasts often carry new sails and electronics, and most spend the winter ashore under a frame and tarpaulin.
