Pure Yachts is a young yard in Kiel. It works on the site of a former tanker shipyard right on the Kiel Fjord and builds tough, fast cruising yachts in aluminium, produced in series but with plenty of room for an owner's wishes. Before its first series model the yard built the BM 50 and the Pure 49. The aluminium specialist Folmer Yachtbau in the Netherlands forms and welds the hull and deck of the Pure 42, and the fit-out follows in Kiel. The design comes from Berckemeyer Yacht Design. Twin rudders, a protected propeller and a lifting keel give the boat its character.

The lifting keel varies the draught between 1.20 metres for shallow water and 3.00 metres for performance upwind. Ready to sail, she weighs around 9.7 tonnes according to the yachting press. The earlier BM 50 and Pure 49 do not appear in our records, so the figures on this page apply to the Pure 42 alone.
Aluminium brings its own routine. Anodes need checking and replacing on schedule, shore power should run through a galvanic isolator, and no copper-based antifouling or stray copper fittings belong anywhere near the hull.
