Rae Line Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Rae Line Boats comes from New Zealand. Peter Rae started in the early 1990s with small twin hull dinghies for the local market, and in 1998 he and Ian Williamson formed Rae Line Ltd. The yard builds compact motorboats for family days, fishing and watersports, with Australia an important export market. The programme combines bowriders with an open foredeck, small cabin boats labelled Cabin Cruiser and the 3.2 Super Dinghy, recognisable by its broad, stable hull. Three digit numbers and letter codes such as BR, OB and CX identify each model.
Our records list six Rae Line models, all motorboats. Three are bowriders: the 180 BR and 185 OB at 5.49 metres each and the 205 OB at 6.3 metres. Two are cabin boats: the 186 CX and 186 OB Cabin Cruisers at 5.7 metres each. The sixth is the 3.2 metre 3.2 Super Dinghy. Lengths run from 3.2 to 6.3 metres, and every model starts with build year 2018 and runs into the latest years. Five of the six sit between 5.49 and 6.3 metres, typical trailer boat size.
These are trailer boats at heart: light enough for a family car, quick to launch and often taken to a different lake or bay each weekend. Rinsing the trailer and the outboard after salt water, checking wheel bearings and keeping the boat under a fitted cloth when parked are the habits that keep one in good order.
