Steury; cover, cost and conditions

Steury was a boatbuilder from Goshen, Indiana. According to Boatblurb, brothers Bud and Virgil Steury, who ran a farm fertiliser business, founded the Steury Boat Company in 1956 in a storage garage to keep busy through the quiet winters. They started with family runabouts, fishing boats and small cruisers up to 18 feet and moved into a dedicated plant in Goshen in 1966. The same article says the brand became known for a trailerable 23 foot houseboat with a raised pilothouse. In our records, a Steury carries a four digit number that roughly gives its length in feet times one hundred.

Our records list six Steury models, five motorboats and one motor yacht. The S series includes the S 1700 at 5.05 metres, the S 1900 and S 1900 CR at 5.49 metres and the S 2200 and S 2200 Cr at 6.7 metres, with the Steury 2500 the largest model at 7.62 metres. Build years open in 1976 with the S 1700, S 1900 CR and S 2200 Cr; the others follow in 1977. The CR versions end in 1983, the rest in 1984.

A Steury today is an American classic of more than forty years, usually towed to a lake or river for the day.
