Tremlett is a name from Topsham in Devon, on the estuary of the Exe. Chris Tremlett set up his business in 1961 on the banks of the River Clyst, a tributary of the Exe. His first hulls were hot moulded: thin strips of mahogany veneer were laid over a mould, glued and cured under pressure and hot air. Glassfibre came later. Tremlett boats made their name in offshore racing, winning the London to Calais and back event among others and running well in the Round Britain and London to Monte Carlo races. From the mid seventies a licensee on Mauritius built Tremlett hulls, and later the range grew to include patrol and harbour craft. Chris Tremlett died in 2008.
