Worth knowing
Viko Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Instead of the engine output, what counts for sailing boats above all is the sail area: alongside the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range it is the factor that determines the premium. For the sailing boats of Viko Yachts, from the Viko 20 to the S35 sailing yacht, you therefore state the sail area when taking out the policy.
Viko has been building since 2012 and continues to this day, in nine model ranges. The Viko 23 is already sailing in our own portfolio. For newer boats such as this one we agree the value as an agreed value; in the event of a claim we pay with no deduction for depreciation, and the value agreed upon is not up for discussion.
Club races are included from the Basis-Plus tariff level upwards; races with ranking status you state when taking out the policy. Cover also applies in winter storage, when craning and when launching, and a trailer is covered by the third-party liability at no extra premium from Basis-Plus, provided it is named in the application with its value. You can add it to the hull cover for a premium. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros you take out the contract online.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
My Viko 23 has a small auxiliary engine. Does it enter the premium?
Yes, for Viko Yachts too: For sailing boats the sail area counts and, if present,
the engine output.
You state both when taking out the policy; together with the value,
the year of construction and the cruising range this gives the premium.
I sail club races with the Viko S 26. Do I have to state that?
For Viko Yachts: Club races are automatically included from Basis-Plus upwards.
Only races with ranking status do you state separately when taking out the policy,
so that the cover fits.

As the Viko 23, Viko 25, Viko s 21 by Viko Yachts and 3 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Viko 22, Viko 20 and Viko 27 by Viko Yachts series the market value and the replacement
cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Viko 23, Viko 25, Viko s 21 by Viko Yachts and further series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the Viko S35 by Viko Yachts series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
