Friedrich Barthel was a German yard building cruising sailing yachts and motorboats. The boats carry the letters eFBe, which spell out the initials of the house. The naming of the sailing yachts is striking: they carry the names of islands in the North Sea and the Baltic, Amrum, Borkum, Anholt and Bornholm, which says at the same time what they were built for. You recognise them by the heavy high built hull, the small low deckhouse and the gear drawn to last; these are boats for the Wadden Sea, the North Sea and the Baltic rather than for a sheltered lake.
