Gozzard Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Gozzard Yachts is based in Goderich, Ontario, on the shore of Lake Huron. The yard was founded in February 1982 by Ted Gozzard, a boatbuilder from Sheffield in England who had set up Bayfield Boat Yard in 1970; today his son Michael Gozzard runs the business. Gozzard builds mainly cruising sailing yachts, plus a few motor yachts and one small motorboat. Model names combine the brand with a number, and suffixes such as Ketch, Nexus, Mark II, RC or MY mark the rig, the variant or the boat type, so the 50 Ketch carries two masts and the MY versions are motor yachts.
Our model records list 11 Gozzard designs: 7 sailing yachts, 3 motor yachts and one motorboat. Build years in our data begin in 2007, with the G41 RC added in 2018. Five lines, all sailing yachts, run into the latest build years: the Gozzard 31, 37, 41, 44 Mark II and G41 RC. The 42 Nexus ends in 2017, the 53 MY and the Classic 24 in 2020, and the 41 MY, 50 Ketch and 51 MY in 2013. Lengths run from 7.31 metres (Classic 24) to 17.37 metres (50 Ketch); the sailing yachts start at 11.03 metres and the motor yachts sit between 12.68 and 16.95 metres.
A Gozzard is built for living aboard over long passages, and owners tend to fit them out accordingly with tankage, ground tackle and self steering. Before a long voyage, rig, chainplates and through hull fittings deserve a thorough survey. On the Great Lakes the season is short and the boats come out of the water each autumn, which makes winter the natural time for maintenance. A well kept log of upgrades and refits makes a real difference when such a yacht is sold.

production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

Gozzard 42 Nexus by Gozzard Yachts and 3 more series the market value and the replacement cost
often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Gozzard 31, Gozzard 37, Gozzard 41 by Gozzard Yachts and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Gozzard 53 MY, Gozzard 41 MY, Gozzard 51 MY by Gozzard Yachts series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Gozzard Classic 24 by Gozzard Yachts series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
