Worth knowing
Gries; cover, cost and conditions
When buying a used sailing yacht, the first question is that of the value. In full hull cover we agree an agreed value for this, on which the compensation is based, with no deduction for depreciation, new for old, and in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Four ranges are recorded with the names Concorde, Constellation, Impact and Decicion, built between 1979 and 1989. No further details on the yard are available; for inclusion in the contract the boat itself is enough for us, regardless of year of build, place of purchase and previous owners.
If a dispute about defects arises after the purchase, the legal expenses cover for water sports that we also offer applies. It covers disputes following the purchase of a used boat as well as a dispute with a yard and thus complements third-party liability and hull insurance.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the value of a used yacht determined?
For Gries: Through an agreed value that is agreed when the contract is taken out.
In the event of a claim this amount is replaced with no deduction for depreciation, new for old,
in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Do previous owners count when a boat is accepted?
No, not for Gries either: We insure regardless of year of build,
place of purchase and previous owners.
What is decisive are the details of the boat such as type of boat, value,
sail area and cruising range.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Concorde, Constellation, Impact by Gries and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
